Preserving Mental Health

Prioritize mental health, recognize signs, practice positive living, seek help, and talk to trusted friends. Manage challenges with a positive attitude.

Maintaining healthy mental health is no less important than sustaining good physical health, as it directly affects our entire body, mind, and soul. One can nurture their mental fitness by keeping their inner child alive, along with maintaining a sense of well-being and practicing self-care.

Mental health is a state of well-being that enables a person to cope with day-to-day stressors while maintaining a balance between body and mind. In other words, a person who can sustain a sound mind in the midst of chaos, recognizes their worth, learns well, works well, and contributes to their community is considered mentally healthy.

Now, the crucial point is how to recognize whether a person is experiencing any mental health disorders. The following are some alarming signs of a person suffering from mental illness:

  • Feeling sad
  • Experiencing excessive unexplained tiredness
  • Brain fog
  • Extreme feelings of guilt
  • Rapid mood changes
  • Anger outbursts
  • Sudden social withdrawal
  • Problems with sleeping
  • Living in their own imaginary world (hallucinations, delusions)
  • Sudden crying
  • Inability to cope with normal daily situations.
  • Excessive substance abuse
  • Having suicidal thoughts

There are many ways to maintain stable mental health. Primarily, one must practice being spiritually active. Although science may be skeptical about it, we cannot deny the fact that it connects us with many good deeds, resulting in self-satisfaction. Investing some time in prayer after waking up in the morning can give us positive vibes from within. Additionally, before starting the day, one should smile at themselves, which can help boost their mood. Moreover, speaking with a spiritual leader would be beneficial.

Next is practicing healthy daily living activities. Getting a good night's sleep is crucial, as our brain needs rest to process things efficiently. Excessive consumption of stimulant drinks should be avoided as it can hinder our sleep pattern. Additionally, exercising daily helps our physical health and eating a well-balanced diet outstandingly affects our mental health too. A healthy, nutritious diet can help us think clearly and feel more alert.

Another vital aspect is to always be positive, as life is full of trials and errors. Taking things positively can keep our mind and mood in good condition. We should try to avoid negative thoughts and maintain distance from people who radiate negativity. It is good to have a positive mindset friend who will help you grow mentally, rather than having ten friends with a negative attitude.

Furthermore, and most importantly, is to talk to someone you trust about the things that are bothering you. People should normalize speaking to someone they are comfortable with, rather than taking lethal steps such as ending one's own life, which is more common when a person is mentally unstable. In such cases, he/she can contact the Indian suicide prevention helpline at 9152987821 or call or text 988 if immediate help is needed.

Moreover, seeking professional help is mandatory, as they can identify and treat the problem more easily. One should visit a psychiatrist when emotions, thoughts, and behaviors become uncontrollable. Although it is the 21st Century, some still consider visiting a psychiatrist a stigma. However, we should always remember that our brain is also part of our body and can become ill. Treating something that is not in proper condition should be our utmost priority.

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that life may have its own worries, but the extent to which we allow them to affect us is purely up to ourselves. Practicing healthy habits and speaking out are the only solutions for overcoming them. Life is full of challenges, and we are no less than two sword warriors; hence, we should face them with open arms and a positive attitude.
