Green is the color of nature & environment. It signifies survival, creation, hopefulness & growth. It is the shade that associates us with mother nature. Human beings & especially we Indians are blessed with a good environment. Sunlight is available in India throughout the year which is a gift from God to us. Good flora & fauna is a sign of a healthy environment & indicates a good ecosystem. In Sanskrit, it is said “Jivo Jeevasya Jeevanam” which means every creature is dependent on each other to sustain life & in this way every one is part of this chain to complete the life cycle.
But man started ruling on the environment to fulfill his needs & due to this there is a huge loss of forests. Trees are being cut to build buildings, and industries, to make six-lane highways. There is constant destruction of trees & forests. The sovereignty of birds, herbs & shrubs is destroyed & whole life chain is disturbed. The vanishing of sparrows is a genuine example of this worst effect.
We cannot see sparrows even in rural areas. We are facing the impact of climate change with unpredicted heavy rainfall, global warming, etc. Water is the ‘Life’ & rivers are polluted due to discharge of waste waters from industries, dumping of plastics & thermacol.
Dr. Sunita Narian CSE director says, “Climate change is not just an existential threat, but the biggest call on this generation to understand that we live in an interdependent world”. Today measure environmental issues are pollution, segregation & disposal of waste & exhaustion of resources. Now it is time to change our life style & support the environment on earth by implementing good practices.
‘Reduce, reuse & recycle’ of water & waste is the need of the hour. Avoiding the use of plastics, thermacol material & starting the use of eco-friendly material is becoming important nowadays. Trees are the main source of production of papers. But avoiding wastage of paper and minimizing taking hard copies by printing will reduce unnecessary cutting of trees.
Research is being conducted on ‘Green Hydrogen’ which is a suitable alternative to fuels such as petrol & diesel. The government has started blending ethanol in petrol to reduce the emission of hazardous gases like sulphur oxide & nitrogen oxide. Everyone now needs to think to support the government & finally saving the earth & future generation.
Various industries are using raw materials such as agro waste as a fuel to generate steam & electricity. The use of solar power is the other alternative to generate electricity instead of the water source. Earth will be greener & our life will be easy if we start changing the scenario by planting more trees and reducing & recycling water & waste. As responsible citizens of this world, it is our duty to protect the next generation’s needs of today & tomorrow.
Greta Thunberg says “No one is too small to make a difference”. We can follow various measures like sharing vehicles, use of public transport, cutting unnecessary travel, utilizing reusable water bottles & bags, going digitally, putting off electrical appliances when not in use, saving water & reusing before recycling.
So go green by becoming more environmentally conscious & reducing generating waste which is hazardous to the environment.
