Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing, Pimpri Pune is affiliated to Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University) and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, as well as the Maharashtra state Nursing Council ,with due permission from the Government of Maharashtra, regarding it’s purpose of providing and promoting nursing education.

On successful completion of PG & UG course, our students receive the Nursing degree, from Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University), Maharashtra.

4. What is the admission criteria for PhD. in Nursing, MSc. Nursing, Basic B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing , & Revised General Nursing & Midwifery (RGNM) courses at Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing, Pimpri Pune?

Selection of the PG & UG candidates will be based on the merit of the common entrance examination held by Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University), i.e All India Allied Health Entrance Test (AIAHET). The admission forms are normally available in the month of February onwards. Admission criteria for PhD. in Nursing
The minimum education requirements shall be:
  1. The candidate should have undergone M.Sc. Nursing, from an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  2. Minimum Five years of work experience after M.Sc. (Nursing).
  3. Candidate shall be medically fit.
Admission criteria for M Sc. Nursing
  1. The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
  2. The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of: The candidate should have undergone B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc. Hons. Nursing/Post basic B.Sc. Nursing in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  3. Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. (Nursing).
  4. Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing).
  5. Candidate shall be medically fit.
  6. 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.
Admission criteria for Basic B.Sc Nursing
  1. The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st Dec. of the year of admission.
  2. The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of : Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years course) Or Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2), Pre-degree Examination (10+2)Or An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized Board or University with Science (Physics ,Chemistry & Biology) & English with minimum of 45% aggregate marks(PCBE), For reserve category 40%.
  3. Candidate shall be medically fit.
Admission criteria for Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
  1. The minimum educational requirement shall be the passing of General Nursing & Midwifery
  2. Candidate shall be medically fit.
Admission criteria for Revised General Nursing & Midwifery (RGNM)
  1. Age for Admission – 17 to 35 yrs. (17 complete on 1st Aug. every year)
  2. Qualification for Admission 10+2 preference to Science faculty, with aggregate of 40%.
  3. Admission cutoff date – 30th August every year.

6. Do you analyze the performance of students? Do you help weaker students?

7. I have not succeeded in medical entrance tests. Can I opt for nursing?

Perhaps the next best alternative to opt for is, Nursing. Though both fields are different they have some similarity and your background in biology and chemistry subjects will be of immense help to you. If you consider other facts you will see that nursing has some advantages loaded in its favour. It takes only four years to complete a degree course in nursing. Compare this time duration, with the duration to do a specialized course in Medicine, which is at least twice as much. Secondly, to complete this course it does not cost you as much as the medicine course. By joining a course in nursing therefore, you can pursue a worthwhile career and start earning as early as when you are only 21 years old. You save time and money and enjoy a good career by opting for Nursing.


8. What does a nurse do? Is the job profile really good?

Nursing being a professional course, there are various areas in nursing that are easily available for the job profile. e.g. Clinical Nurse, Counselor, Nurse Administrator, Nurse Educator, Nurse Researcher.


9. What characteristics a nurse should have?

A nurse needs discipline, patience, responsibility, punctuality, commitment and dedication to succeed in the profession. The job requires a lot of hard work, stamina, alertness of mind, adaptability to follow difficult time schedules, ability to think in crisis, good team spirit etc. Apart from possessing these qualities, the persons willing to take up this as profession, should be calm, pleasant, compassionate, understanding and should have the instinct to help and serve the needy people without getting sentimentally attached.

As per World Health Organization norms there is a shortage of 2.8 million qualified nurses in India. Not only numbers of opportunities are high, the pay and growth opportunities are also good. Several factors decide the pay structure- qualification, specialization, experience and the place of work. A graduate nurse with right attitude and aptitude can start with a salary package. There is rise in salary package at par and as per the recommendation of 6th pay commission for the nurses. Trained Nurses’ Association of India, a group protecting the interest of registered nurses, is lobbying with the Government to provide a salary structure to nurses at par ,with some other government officials. With this happening you can expect further hike in salary. Shortage of qualified nurses has lead to competition among the employing institutions to attract them.
